Caltex Joins the SLFVH in Their Journey for Light

October 30, 2006 : Today, we at Caltex join the Sri Lanka Federation of the Visually Handicapped (SLFVH) to salute the visually impaired in the country. In our commitment to this group of very special people, we together with the SLFVH join them in unison from the Headquarters’ of the SLFVH to the Public Library Auditorium in their traditional “White Cane Walk”. Our objective of this event is to join the SLFVH to highlight the needs and aspirations of the visually handicapped community and as socially responsible individuals to create a sense of awareness and empathy towards them.

 

To mark this special occasion, Caltex will donate 1000 white canes provide financial assistance to 50 selected persons for self employment projects, make a donation to the Damayanthi Home for the Elderly Blind in Walasmulla for the construction of a well and award scholarships to 10 visually impaired Advanced Level students. White canes will be ceremonially distributed by the First Lady Mrs. Shiranthi Rajapakshe at the Public Library Auditorium.

 

In a prelude to this event, a presentation of white canes was made by HE President Mahinda Rajapakshe and Prime Minister HE Ratnasiri Wickramanyake to the representatives of the SLFVH in the presence of the management of Caltex.
