Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC donated essential medical equipment to the Cancer Unit of the Kandy General Hospital. The handing over ceremony of the medical equipment was held on the 8th of February 2016 at the Cancer Home Auditorium in Kandy.
Of the health issues that are impacting people across the world, cancer is ranked among the top three. Early diagnosis and early intervention is the key to cancer management and a better quality of life. Cancer is one of the main death causing illnesses in Sri Lanka. 18,000 Sri Lankans are diagnosed with Cancer every year, of which 33% face death within a year.
70% of the Sri Lankan population resides in rural areas and are dependent on the government health care service for cancer treatments. The Kandy general hospital is one of the main hospitals in Sri Lanka. The hospital treats cancer patients from 6 provinces, over 4000 cancer patients per annum.
The donation of these essential medical equipment will be utilized for the betterment of the thousands of patients who depend on the Kandy General Hospital for treatments. The handing over ceremony was graced by the senior official of Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC and the Kandy Teaching hospital. Also in attendance were the members of the Cancer society (Kandy branch), distinguished stakeholders of Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC from the area as well as the staff of the Kandy General hospital.

In the year 2015 the company donated essential medical equipment to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, which benefited the child patients, the medical staff, as well as the Medical students of the Ruhunu Faculty of Medicine. The “Love Life” CSR initiative which created awareness on HIV & AIDS was another contribution of Chevron Lubricants to improve the health of Sri Lankans.
