“Caltex Road Star” Now in Colombo!!!!

roadstarcolomboCaltex Road Star is an unprecedented national campaign on Road Safety launched by Chevron, in association with the Sri Lanka Motor Traffic Police. The programme which has been run in 9 major cities across the country, reaches its final phase in the city of Colombo.

The Caltex Road Star team, including officials from the Sri Lanka Motor Traffic Police will patrol the streets of Colombo in campaign vehicles and identify motorists who adhere to consistent use of indicators, wear of seatbelts, maintain road discipline, and thereby observe traffic rules. ‘Safe drivers’ identified by the mobile teams will receive fabulous Caltex Road Star gift packs and stand a chance to win a bonus cash prize at the ‘Caltex Road Star – super draw’.

The campaign has already been held in major towns such as Galle, Matara, Kalutara, Kandy, Embilipitiya, Ratnapura, Kurunegala, Anuradhapura and Gampaha. The locations were selected based on their contribution to the severity of road accidents leading to fatalities.
Currently, the government’s spend on road-accident related hospitalization and recovery, accounts for nearly 2% of the country’s GDP on an annual basis. Road accidents in the last decade caused damage of over Rs.100 billion with more than a million vehicles damaged. On an average, a record of 150 accidents take place per day with 5-6 fatalities. The programme was conceptualized by Chevron, in support of the government’s aim to arrest the issue of road accidents by reinforcing positive behaviour amongst the motorists in Sri Lanka.

Although involved in numerous safety projects over the years, the ‘Caltex Road Star’ Campaign will be the first project of this magnitude organized by Chevron to support the efforts of the Sri Lanka Traffic authorities through this unique awareness and rewards programme.
